TRAVEL DESCRIPTION

Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) is a unique place in the Peruvian Andes. Its red, green, and yellow tones were formed naturally by the minerals found in the area.

During the tour, you will walk through an authentic Andean landscape, surrounded by mountains, alpacas, and the presence of Apu Ausangate, one of the most important mountains in the region.

This experience is designed for those who enjoy nature and want to visit one of the most representative places in Cusco. From the highest viewpoint, you will have a panoramic view that makes the hike worthwhile.

Day 01: Cusco + Cusipata + Pitumarca + Vinicunca + Cusco

  • This incredible day begins very early with pick-up from your hotel between 4:00 and 4:30 a.m. as we head south of Cusco. During the 2 hour and 30-minute drive, you will have time to rest until we reach the town of Cusipata. Along the way, you will enjoy views of picturesque Andean villages, ancient Inca terraces, and majestic mountains.
  • Upon arrival near Cusipata, you will enjoy a delicious semi-buffet breakfast along with a traditional coca tea. After breakfast, we will continue our journey to the starting point of the hike. From there, we begin walking along a winding trail surrounded by incredible mountains.
  • As we ascend, we will have impressive views of the Ausangate glacier (6,372 m / 20,905 ft). You will also see local residents wearing traditional clothing handmade by themselves.
  • After approximately 2 hours of hiking, we will reach the stunning Rainbow Mountain (5,020 m / 16,470 ft), where you will have time to take in this unique natural formation. Our guide will share information about its origin and significance while you explore the area and capture spectacular photos. After enjoying between 30 minutes to 1 hour at the summit, we will begin our descent of about 2 hours back to the starting point.
  • Once we return to the starting point, we will board our transport to Cusipata, where you will enjoy a varied buffet lunch. Finally, we will return to Cusco, arriving around 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m.

  • Walk at your own pace during the ascent. The altitude may cause fatigue, so taking breaks when necessary is recommended.
  • Stay hydrated throughout the tour to help prevent altitude sickness.
  • Bring sunscreen, water, light snacks, basic pain relievers, and any personal medication you may need.
  • Avoid heavy meals and alcoholic beverages the day before the tour, as they may affect your performance at high altitude.
  • The weather is cold in the morning and warmer at midday. Wear layered clothing, a hat, gloves, and a waterproof jacket.
