TRAVEL DESCRIPTION
The 2-day Huchuy Qosqo trek is a great option for those who want to enjoy nature without taking on a very long route. We start in Tambomachay, where the Andean landscape can be felt from the very beginning. The trail leads us through quiet paths, small lagoons, and areas where local families still maintain their traditional way of life.
On the second day, we arrive at Huchuy Qosqo, an archaeological site located high above the Sacred Valley. From there, the views are wide and allow you to see much of the valley and the surrounding mountains. After exploring the site, we descend to Lamay, where the hike ends and we return to Cusco.
PROGRAM SUMMARY
Cusco – Tambomachay – Qoriqocha – Pucamarca
Hotel pickup in Cusco and transfer to Tambomachay (30 minutes) for archaeological visit, continuing to the lakes of Qoriqocha known as "golden lake and duck lake." The hike ends in the indigenous community of Pucamarca where you have lunch, visit family homes and Andean camelid farms, overnight in community camp.
Pucamarca – Huchuy Qosqo – Lamay – Cusco
After breakfast, 1h 30m hike to the archaeological complex of Huchuy Qosqo (Little Cusco) to explore ceremonial centers, plazas and Inca terraces. Subsequent 2-hour descent to the town of Lamay in the Sacred Valley, where transport back to Cusco awaits.
TRAVEL ITINERARY
Day 1: Cusco - Pucamarca - Huchuy Qosqo
- First of all, in the morning we will pick you up at your hotel with our transportation. Consequently, we will be transported with all the equipment to the vicinity of Tambomachay, preferred resting place of the Inca Rulers. So, this trip will take about 30 minutes.
- Likewise, we will make a brief visit to the Tambomachay Archaeological Site. Then, we go towards the lagoons of “Qoriqocha”. Certainly, known as the lagoon of gold and ducks. Above all, it is one of the most famous lagoons of the tour. The one we will visit on our way. Subsequently, we will arrive at the community of Pumamarca in a time of 7 hours.
- Then, in the Indigenous Community of Pucamarca we will have lunch. In addition, we will make a previous visit to the house of the villagers. In the same way, we will observe the way of life they lead. And we will visit the surroundings of the village. Likewise, we will discover the Andean camelids’ nursery in family houses. Finally, we will camp here to spend the night in this village.
Day 2: Pukamarca - Huchuy Qosqo - Cusco
- Similarly, after breakfast, we will say goodbye to the families. Soon, we continue towards the archaeological complex of Huchuy Qosqo. Therefore, this walk will take us about 1h 30m. So, a nutritious lunch will be waiting for us there.
- After that, we will visit the majestic Inca Archaeological Complex “Huchuy Qosqo” (Little Cusco). In addition, we will observe ceremonial centers, squares, canals, terraces, sacred enclosures, etc.
- Consequently, after the tour, we will descend to the town of Lamay in an average of 2 hours. In the meantime, you will be able to enjoy the Sacred Valley until you reach the Lamay district. As a result, our transportation will be waiting for us there to return to Cusco City.

- Walk at your own pace throughout the route. The altitude can cause fatigue, so taking breaks when necessary is recommended.
- Stay hydrated during the entire hike to help prevent altitude sickness.
- Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, basic pain relievers, and any personal medication you may need.
- Avoid heavy meals and alcoholic beverages the day before the tour.
- The weather varies: cold mornings, wind in higher areas, and strong sun at midday. Wear layered clothing, a hat, gloves, and a waterproof jacket.
