Travel Guide

The rules that must be respected inside Machu Picchu are:

• Entry to the Inca city is from 06:00 to 16:00 hrs.
• The entry and consumption of alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited.
• Hydrating drinks must be carried in bottles (but not disposable ones).
• The consumption of food inside the archaeological park is not allowed.
• The entry of pets is prohibited.
• Throwing garbage inside the site is prohibited. Trash bins are located outside the archaeological site.
• Smoking and especially lighting fires are prohibited.
• Regarding luggage, only small bags and backpacks are allowed. However, if you have large luggage, you may leave it before entering the Archaeological Site in the storage area, which has an extra cost of 3 to 5 soles.
• It is not permitted to climb the Inca walls, much less paint or scratch them.
• You must be responsible for yourself; if you are accompanied by children, watch them carefully so they do not cause irreversible damage.
• Inside the Machu Picchu Sanctuary, you will not find restrooms. It is recommended to use them before entering.
• The use of walking sticks is permitted only for elderly people or those with disabilities; sticks must have a rubber tip.
• Respect the signage: the Sanctuary has restricted access areas that must be respected. Walk only in the authorized areas, which are duly marked.
