This ATV tour to Rainbow Mountain allows us to quickly ascend to Vinicunca and enjoy its spectacular scenery without the effort of a long hike.
Vinicunca ATV Tour Itinerary
Day 01: Cusco + Pitumarca + Checacupe + Cairahuiri + Rainbow Mountain + Pitumarca + Cusco
- The adventure to Rainbow Mountain by ATV begins early, with pickup from your hotel in Cusco at 4:00 a.m. From there, we head toward the South Valley, enjoying Andean landscapes and the daily life of local communities.
- After a 2-hour drive, we arrive in Cusipata to enjoy a delicious breakfast that will recharge us before continuing the journey.
- At the base, the guide will provide a brief safety briefing. Then we begin a 20-minute ATV ride along mountain trails toward Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), a truly unique natural wonder.
- Located at 5,036 m.a.s.l., Rainbow Mountain displays an impressive natural palette of red, green, and yellow tones. The guide will explain its geological formation and cultural importance.
- From the viewpoint, you will also appreciate the majestic Apu Ausangate, the sacred mountain whose glaciers feed the Vilcanota River.
- After enjoying the scenery and taking photos, we return by ATV to the base. Then we head to Cusipata for a delicious lunch before returning to Cusco.
- Arrival in the city is expected around 5:00 p.m., concluding a day filled with adventure and unforgettable landscapes.

- This tour takes place at more than 4,200 m.a.s.l., so it is important to arrive in Cusco with proper acclimatization (1 to 2 days beforehand). If you have heart or respiratory conditions, high blood pressure, or are pregnant, inform the agency before booking.
- During the short walk to the Vinicunca viewpoint, go at your own pace. The altitude can cause fatigue, so it is recommended to rest whenever necessary.
- Stay hydrated throughout the activity to improve acclimatization and prevent altitude sickness.
- Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, basic pain relievers, and any necessary personal medication.
- Avoid heavy meals and alcoholic beverages the day before the tour, as they may affect your performance at high altitude.
- The weather is variable: cold mornings (10–15°C), windy high areas, and stronger sun at midday. Wear warm layered clothing, a hat, gloves, and a waterproof jacket.

- Always follow the guide’s instructions, especially when handling ATVs and at the control points along the route.
- Do not litter during the tour. Bring a small personal bag for your waste and dispose of it in designated areas.
- Using trekking poles is optional; if you bring them, they must have rubber tips to protect the terrain.
- Respect natural areas and sacred sites. Vinicunca and Apu Ausangate are part of the spiritual identity of local communities.
- Do not leave the marked path or approach edges or unstable areas, especially at high viewpoints.
