Recommendations for Your Trip
- Trip order: Starting in Tambopata, at a low altitude, allows you to arrive in Cusco well-rested. In addition, Humantay and Vinicunca are scheduled after several days in Cusco and Machu Picchu, when your body is better adapted to the altitude.
- Luggage: For the lodge and the train to Machu Picchu, travel with a lightweight backpack weighing 5 to 8 kg. Your main suitcase will be stored at your hotel in Cusco.
- Clothing for four climates: Lightweight, long-sleeved clothing for the rainforest; layered thermal clothing, a fleece jacket, windbreaker, hat, and gloves for Cusco, Humantay, Vinicunca, and Colca; and lightweight clothing for Nazca, Ica, and Paracas.
- Health in the rainforest: The yellow fever vaccine is recommended for Tambopata; consult your doctor in advance. Bring insect repellent.
-
Health recommendations
- If you have heart or respiratory problems, high blood pressure, are pregnant, or have any chronic medical condition, consult your doctor before traveling and inform us when booking. This route includes hikes at 4,200 and 5,020 meters above sea level.
- To prevent altitude sickness, rest on the day you arrive in Cusco, drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous activity, and do not drink alcohol during the first few days.
- Bring your personal medications along with their prescriptions. If you want to take any medication for altitude sickness, consult your doctor beforehand.
- At Humantay and Vinicunca, hike at your own pace and take short breaks. If you experience severe dizziness or shortness of breath, inform your guide immediately.
- If you are prone to motion sickness on small planes, consult your doctor before the Nazca scenic flight and avoid eating a heavy meal before flying.
- Eat light meals in the highlands and drink coca or muña tea to help your body adjust to the altitude.
Travel rules and recommendations
- Always follow your guide’s instructions and respect the designated circuits. Drones and tripods are not allowed at Machu Picchu, and you must carry your entrance ticket and passport.
- In Tambopata, do not feed or touch the animals, and remain quiet at Sandoval Lake to avoid disturbing the otters.
- The Ballestas Islands are a protected area: the tour takes place from the boat, without disembarking.
- On the Uros and Taquile Islands, ask permission before photographing people.
- Keep your belongings in sight, especially at bus terminals and during overnight trips.
- In case of an emergency, contact our team or call the police at 105.
