DAY 1: PUNO / UROS / TAQUILE / PLAZA / PUNO
The Lake Titicaca tour begins with the transfer from hotels in Puno to the port, where we board a boat bound for the Uros Floating Islands. Here, the inhabitants welcome us warmly and show us their ancestral way of life, based on the construction of artificial islands with totora reed, a native plant of the lake. During the visit, we’ll learn about their homes, traditions and the way they have managed to preserve their culture over time.
Then, we continue sailing to Taquile Island, a place recognized for its community system and its artisan textiles, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Upon arrival, the locals welcome us and we begin an approximately 35-minute walk to the main plaza, enjoying panoramic views of the lake and agricultural terraces. After some free time to explore, we enjoy a typical lunch with local ingredients, such as quinoa soup, fresh trout and muña tea, an Andean herb with medicinal properties.
Finishing the experience, we descend to the port of Taquile and board the boat back to Puno, where transportation awaits to take us to the hotels. This tour offers a deep immersion into Andean culture, allowing us to learn about the customs and traditions of two unique communities that have managed to preserve their identity through time. Without a doubt, an unmissable trip for those seeking to explore the history and beauty of Lake Titicaca with Illa Kuntur Travel.
